Susan is from India We have not stopped talking since I started this class and hope one day to be able to visit I have learned so much interesting stuff some concerning some exciting.
Wendy is from Nicaragua and we have only spoken a few times as her internet only can be cut on during the weekends. Nicaragua is one of the poorest countries in the hemispheres, it faces low capital income. Nicaragua has a very high unemployment and a very heavy dept ratio. Wendy advised due to the hurricanes, droughts and floods just make the poverty worse. Over 500,000 children due not attend schools due to no jobs or parents not being able to provide supplies, food or a way to get there. The average child only attends 4 years in school and 1 out of every 10 kids can not read or write. Some children go to school at night so they can work during the day.
After speaking with these beautiful ladies and doing resources for my homework assignments I am really sad and upset the world has gotten this way. I can’t believe children especially are suffering. It really bothers me children as young as 6 are out on the street I know here in united states we have foster homes and shelters which I am sure are not much better however where are the government to help these children. It really got me thinking how lucky my family and I are and I really need to do something to help others. I wish there were some more publicity so maybe other would be aware and be willing to help.
First I want to say how incredible it is that you speak to each of these ladies about the trials of poverty. I cannot believe or imagine how it must feel to be a child to live on the streets or to only speak to the one woman because she only gets the internet on the weekend. Do you see yourself going in another path in your career after having these conversations?
ReplyDeleteYour contacts gave you some great information to share-it is heartbreaking to read about children so young having to do these things in order to survive.
ReplyDeleteBy sharing what we learn with others, we may be able to get more people talking and taking action to help all these children around the world that are living in poverty and being deprived of their basic needs and education.
Thank you for sharing the knowledge you have been given from your contacts.
The contacts that you have made are amazing! These are 2 countries that I have wanted to travel to, but I do not think that I would get to see these descriptions as you mentioned. It is great that you found two WOMEN who will open up and talk about the poverty in their counties. Being a woman, I am glad that I was given the opportunities that I have and I hope one day all women around the globe are given the same opportunities.
