week 2 website review

The website I joined is www.unicefusa.org/

The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) is a group that is committed to improving the lives of children all around the world. The main purpose of UNICEF is to make sure that children around the world get the proper care and education they need to achieve in life. The UNICEF works in 190 countries and help children’s by providing health care, immunizations, clean water proper nutrition, education, emergency relief and more.

A current issue that caught my eye. “UNICEF Provides Emergency Relief as Floods Strike Niger Amidst Cholera Outbreak and Nutrition Crisis” Due to recent floods both homes and crops have been destroyed leaving children and there families with no place stay and no food all the crops have been destroyed. And there is nothing to eat. The UNICEF has handed out food, blankets, and nets to try to help the people in this time of devastation.  It is very difficult for children,” says Sarando Ganda village Chief Seyni Hamadou Sani. “Children are particularly exposed to diarrhea and malaria. In one week, we had 53 cases of malaria. 52 deaths have already been reported. Children and their families have to stay in schools and other local buildings.  UNICEF has asked for additional funding to help families rebuild their homes, to supply proper nutrition and medical care.

I have learned a lot this week from current reading and this organization. I know really understand there are people out there that are willing to help in the time of need. UNICEF and its partners are providing relief for flood victims. This organization has come together to provide blankets, sheets, cooking items, nets, hygiene supplies and other life-saving supplies. I think it  is  great that people are coming together in a time of need and helping other people in  different cultures around the world.

  1. It is great that we have organizations around the world to help with natural disaster programs to help people. The things that are least expected always have the biggest impact on a person's life. It is also hard to believe that people around the world are dying from "simple" things such as diarrhea and malaria. I wish that events like this would be on the news so that more people might be able to reach out and help cases such as this one.

  2. I am part of an organization called Heffer and what they do is you pay to buy cows/chickens for people. I like this idea because you are not just throwing money in a big pot but supplying this places with resources.. It is really sad we don't see this on the news and this is really an amazing organization. I think it is really amazing how many countries they work with.

  3. Sandi, I agree with you. I would also have to say that I think it is great that people unite from around the World to support a cause. The help that children and victims of flood, disasters, sicknesses, nutrition demands, health demands, are so great, that it is so nice to see that people care so much to spread their voice out there to gain support and help those in need.
