Week 4 sharing web resources

I really think this article that the UNICEF is working in over 190 countries to help save children lives providing them with clear water, education, food and emergency relief. They are holding fundraisers to provide the day that no children will ever die from illness or malnutrition. I really think this is relevant to my developmental profession due to us as teachers need to make sure the children in out care are not suffering and always look for signs of abuse, poverty or malnutrition. We as educators need to make sure we teach our self and families the importance of helping others and reaching out to families who might need help
The section that really caught my eye and I believe is relevant in my current development. People and partners this is where everyone goes to help people thru partnerships. They have several levels of volunteers from ambassadors, volunteers, to sponsored  partners each person is required to do a special job and bring increased awareness to the troubled areas where children are most in need. The goal for every level is to save lives of children. This programs has fundraisers programs which I just signed up for and they are sending me boxes so my school can be a corporate partnership and have children collect change to help underprivileged children in the world. I think getting children involved this will be a eye opener for children and their families.
Idea’s I found that made me think in new ways. I really need to read more and educate myself and others to get families involved in helping children. I need to learn how to be a advocate for children.  What I have learned this week from my reviewing is malnutrition I never realized more than 1/3 of all childhood deaths were caused from not enough food. Prices for basic food is rising causing millions children into starvation. I also find it interesting children with full bellies are still lacking the nutrients and vitamins they need to grow to their full potential.  A malnourished child is less able to fight off illness, causing children to miss school and get left behind.
How do politicians, economists support the childhood field thru UNICEF the senators and government has  passed several laws  to provide assistants to children such as “Food interventions are crucial as Somalia faces worst-case scenario” Economists supported non-governmental organization that addresses the needs of children orphaned by the genocide, AIDS, and other causes. It provides medical, economic and educational support.

  1. I personally think that you are an advocate for children. Just you taking out the time to research these topics takes courage. I believe that these are issues that sometimes people think are other people's problems.

  3. I agree with Jennifer that you are being an advocate for children already. It's great that you are getting your school involved with projects and trying to teach them about the needs of others. You have given us more information about UNICEF that is very useful. Great job!

  4. I loved all the things that you talked about. UNICEF is a very useful site and I think you found the best attributes of the site. I also love how you talked about UNICEF helping other people in Somalia, I just wish that maybe some of their efforts could be used to make a difference in the U.S. as well. You are truly a "teacher" of more than just academics - and this will have the biggest positive impact on your students as they grow.
